The Substitutes is a webcomic about three people, pictured above, who find themselves in a very bizarre and extraordinary situation. They have just been pulled to another world and seem to have accidentally taken possession of very powerful relics. Exactly what these artifacts do or what they are for has yet to be explained, but I assume it involves some powers beyond mortal comprehension and maybe a prophecy of some sort. There is usually always a prophecy spelling the coming of heroes or saviors after all.

I love stuff like this, I absolutely adore stories with magical mishaps. Magic is in “reality” a very unpredictable force. When things happen that not even experts can explain, you know something shit is about to go down. Also as a fan of tabletop gaming, anytime my players have some sort of magical mishap is just like putting a buffet of story options before me, but that is irrelevant ramblings of a nerd.

The story looks like it could be very interesting, given that there are two worlds that the main characters will now be interacting with on some level, and now they must figure out exactly what it is they have done. The consequences for taking these artifacts could range from a simple give them back and it’s all good to you done screwed the pooch on this one. I really am excited to see where it all goes.

The art style is very well done, having the confidence of obvious practice and a very solid look to it already. I honestly want to see some of the sketch drafts of some of these pages, most of my long time readers will know that I’m a sucker for rough art, or even some concept art just to see how this story has evolved from its original conception.

Not a whole lot more to say since it’s relatively short at the moment, but it has the makings of a good comic that is well worth the wait between updates. Give it a read, let me know what you think personally.

And, as always, I hope you enjoy as much as I do.
